Environmental report for 2023

Kitotec GmbH sees sustainability as a fundamental part of its corporate culture and long-term strategy. In line with our ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications, we take a systematic approach to reducing our environmental footprint and conserving resources.

Waste management and recycling

Paper and cardboard: The amount of paper and unusable cardboard and cartons to be disposed of corresponds to approx. 400 kg per year, collected in a 240-liter bin (green bin) that is emptied monthly by RSAG GmbH.

Plastic: By consistently reusing plastic inner packaging, we have been able to reduce plastic waste to an annual volume of 960 liters and a weight of about 150 kg (e.g. foils), which are also disposed of by RSAG GmbH.

Residual waste: Our residual waste amounts to 1,440 liters annually, which corresponds to a weight of about 250 kg.

Electronic waste: Approx. 50 kg of electronic waste is properly disposed of each year.

Scrap metal: 100% of the steel and aluminum scrap (approx. 100 kg annually) is recycled.

Batteries: Approx. 2 kg of batteries and rechargeable batteries are disposed of properly each year.

Digitization and waste prevention

The consistent conversion to paperless office processes has almost completely eliminated waste from office materials. At the same time, the digitization of our processes has ensured that paper consumption has been reduced by more than 90%. We have not used catalogs and brochures for years, thus avoiding considerable amounts of paper, printing and shipping resources.

Water consumption and wastewater management

Our fresh water consumption is 30 m³ annually. The use of green spaces, eco-paving and rainwater seepage systems significantly reduces the amount of wastewater.

Energy and CO₂ emissions

Electricity: In 2022, we purchased 3,833 kWh of electricity, which comes 100% from renewable energy sources (E.ON Komfortstrom Plus).

Heating: The CO₂ emissions of our heating system amounted to 4.41 tons of CO₂ in 2022. Efficient solar thermal modules contribute significantly to reducing gas consumption.

Vehicles: Our vehicles caused 7.3 tons of CO₂ in 2022. We plan to switch to electric vehicles by 2025, once our planned photovoltaic system is completed.

Train travel: CO₂ emissions from train travel amounted to only 0.5 tons of CO₂.

Air travel: no air travel took place.

Resource and packaging management

Our focus is on reducing and reusing packaging materials. We rely on:

  • Paper-based packaging, which largely replaces plastic packaging.
  • Reused inner packaging from partner companies. This practice has significantly reduced our waste.
  • Precise logistics planning that minimizes unnecessary transport and additional packaging.

Energy efficiency and future measures

  • LED lighting in all rooms ensures low energy consumption and an improved working environment.
  • Our IT infrastructure consists of energy-efficient devices.
  • A photovoltaic system will be installed by 2025/2026 to ensure a self-sufficient energy supply.

ISO 14001 and employee engagement

As part of the ISO 14001 certification, we actively promote environmental awareness among our team through regular training and workshops. The focus here is on innovative solutions and best practices to further reduce our ecological footprint.

Conclusion

Kitotec GmbH is striving for a more sustainable future by taking a comprehensive approach that combines waste management, energy efficiency, digitalization, and employee engagement. We are actively committed to reducing waste, minimizing CO₂ emissions, and continuously improving our processes in order to make our long-term contribution to climate protection.
