History and innovation
Summira GmbH was founded by the grandfather of the managing director of Kitotec GmbH in Bornheim near Bonn. Originally, the company focused on mechanical adding machines, which also shaped the company name: “Summira” is derived from the Latin “to add up”. However, the rapid development of technology fundamentally changed the business model.
Summira GmbH set new standards as early as the late 1970s when it was one of the first companies to switch to CNC turning technology. In the early 1990s, another leap in innovation occurred with the implementation of CAD and 3D machining software. Since 2006, the company has been using SolidWorks for design and SolidCam for CAM programming – a technological setup that seamlessly supports all internal manufacturing processes.
